Teacher shortages, vouchers among topics at NEA Representative Assembly

More than 120 WEAC members are heading to Boston this week for the National Education Association Annual Meeting and Representative Assembly. WEAC President Ron Martin, who headed out early this week, said teacher shortages and private school vouchers are two of the key topics to be addressed by the approximately 7,500 delegates.

Four outstanding individuals honored with WEAC Awards

WEAC President Ron Martin presented four major WEAC Awards at the 2017 WEAC Representative Assembly. The winners are: Maggie Beeber, Friend of Education; Sharon Bowen, Richard J. Ron Martin elected WEAC President; Peggy Wirtz-Olsen is new Vice President

Eau Claire middle school teacher Ron Martin has been elected WEAC president, and Marshfield High School English teacher Peggy Wirtz-Olsen has been elected WEAC Vice President. The election took place over the weekend during the 94th WEAC Representative Assembly. “I believe in our union and the power we have to transform public education and to continue to serve as its guardians,” Martin told RA delegates. “We will be known by educators as the union that promotes and advances professional practice, personal growth, as well as the economic welfare and rights of our members.”
